Spanish Mackerel Take Over as Spring Turns to Summer
Gulf Shores Marina - Collier, FL
Spring break brought plenty of action to the waters of Gulf Shores, and Captain Mike reports consistent success throughout the busy season. The sheepshead bite, which was strong earlier in the spring, is beginning to slow down as those fish start to move out. In their place, Spanish mackerel are arriving in impressive numbers—showing up early and in full force.
With warmer weather settling in, anglers can expect fast-paced fishing nearshore, especially when targeting Spanish mackerel along the beaches and passes. These aggressive feeders are a favorite for light tackle and a great sign that summer fishing patterns are kicking in. Now’s the time to gear up and hit the water!
